I met yesterday with a group of building contractors in Jerusalem.
They told me about their problems caused by a lack of housing starts in recent years.
I told them that the existing situation, where there are only around 2,000 housing starts is an untenable situation. There are ways to fix the current situation, and as mayor, I pledge to undertake the following:
Firstly, to promote the Plan 38 whereby extra floors are added to existing buildings which also undergo renovation (which is currently handled by only one clerk at City Hall!)
Secondly, renovating and gentrifying old building projects or neighborhoods in cooperation with the residents to substantially enhance the quality of life in the city.
Thirdly, to remove the bureaucratic barriers in planning and building committees to promote and expedite requests and proposals.
